Connect an AI assistant

Let Claude, Cursor or another assistant manage your menu and your email preferences for you, at the restaurants you choose.

What connecting means

Gilded Plate can be connected to an AI assistant the way it can be connected to any app that speaks the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Once connected, the assistant acts as you, with only the permissions you grant it, at only the restaurants you choose. Nothing it can do is anything you could not do yourself from the console, and every change it makes is recorded against your name with the assistant's name beside it.

Connecting takes a minute:

  1. You give your assistant Gilded Plate's address (below).
  2. The assistant asks Gilded Plate for permission. Gilded Plate opens a page in your browser that shows the assistant's name, what it is asking to do, and a checkbox for each of your restaurants where you hold that permission.
  3. You sign in if you are not already, untick any restaurant you want to keep out of it, and press Allow.

That is it. The assistant is connected until you disconnect it.

The address

Every assistant needs the same one thing, Gilded Plate's MCP address:

https://www.gildedplate.com/api/mcp

Claude.ai and Claude Desktop

Claude.ai and the Claude Desktop app share one list of connectors, so you add Gilded Plate once and it is available in both.

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Gilded Plate and paste the address above as the remote MCP server URL, then add it.
  4. Back in the connectors list, press Connect beside Gilded Plate. Your browser opens Gilded Plate's permission page: sign in, choose your restaurants, and press Allow.
  5. In a conversation, make sure Gilded Plate is switched on under the tools menu, then ask away.

Custom connectors are a feature of Claude's paid plans. On a Team or Enterprise plan an administrator may need to add the connector for the organisation before you can connect to it.

Claude Code

In a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http gildedplate https://www.gildedplate.com/api/mcp

Then, inside a Claude Code session, type /mcp, pick Gilded Plate and choose to authenticate. Your browser opens Gilded Plate's permission page; sign in, choose your restaurants, and press Allow. Claude Code picks the connection up as soon as you return.

Cursor

  1. Open Cursor Settings, then MCP (called Tools & Integrations in some versions).
  2. Choose Add new MCP server and give it this entry:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "gildedplate": {
      "url": "https://www.gildedplate.com/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
  1. Cursor shows Gilded Plate as needing authentication. Press the sign-in link beside it; your browser opens Gilded Plate's permission page. Sign in, choose your restaurants, and press Allow.

What a connected assistant can do

Today an assistant can work on your menu at the restaurants you allowed it: dishes and their names, prices, descriptions, categories, options and photos; switching a dish off or deleting it; menus, what is on each and at what price, and when a menu is available. It applies every rule the console applies, so a photo that is too small is still refused and a dish with no photo still cannot be ordered.

For your own account, it can see and change which emails Gilded Plate sends you and whether the console shows you what changed after a release.

It cannot take or refund a payment, touch an order, seat a table, change who is on your staff, or change a restaurant's settings. No such permission is offered on the page you allow it from, so there is nothing to grant by mistake.

What the assistant already knows

When it connects, the assistant is given Gilded Plate's own guide to how a menu is put together, so it does not have to guess: that categories are the sections a guest scrolls through, that one dish can sit on several menus at several prices, that option groups are shared between dishes, and what stops a dish from being orderable. It also comes with two ready-made workflows you can ask for by name:

  • Set up my menu from a document you paste in. The assistant reads it, proposes categories, option groups and dishes, waits for your go-ahead, then builds them and tells you which dishes still need a photo before they can be ordered.
  • Audit my menu's readiness. The assistant lists every dish that cannot be ordered right now, explains why, fixes what it can, and lists what needs a person.

Disconnecting

Open your account and choose Connected apps. Every assistant you have allowed is listed with the restaurants it may work on and when it was last used. Press Disconnect beside one and it is cut off at once: its next request is refused, and connecting it again shows the permission page from the start.

Removing yourself from a restaurant's staff, or having a permission taken away, has the same effect for that restaurant. An assistant only ever has what you have.
